The flames will not set you ablaze.

Isaiah 43:2
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.

It has been another quick week with lots of action. Most importantly, I have a prayer request for all of you. Thursday, our neighbor's house went up in flames. They aren't sure why yet, but it was a total loss. This is the website for our news channel's report. The above verse has been in my thoughts ever since.

Kris let Bella out that morning, and she wouldn't go further than the deck, and was high pitch whining and upset until he looked out the front door and saw the flames. He called me at work and left a terrifying message that the neighbor's house was burning down! I could hear Bella in the background freaking out, and Kris was too: he can't walk too far in the heat and I had the car with his wheelchair in it! I came home as soon as I got the message, thanking God for their safety and thankfully the fire was already out. The house is two down and across the street from us. Although we don't know the family yet, they have children and of course are devastated. Thankfully they were gone for the day and their cat is OK too. Please pray for them and for us to know how to help them. We hadn't really met them yet, and I find myself unsure of what to do or say (Me? Not knowing what to say!) I don't want to be that nosy neighbor or but I do want to help...What to do?
What a reminder that God controls every breath we take and also that we take nothing physical from earth to heaven. I keep thinking, it could have been us. The only thing I can't imagine losing is Kris. And Bella too. Everything else is just filler. Easier to say when its not your house though. Each time I drive by this house I am reminded that nothing but God is permanent. Why do I waste so much time on things that don't matter? There have been quite a few reminders of this since moving here. God is definitely teaching me something. So please pray for my neighbors and for us to do what we're supposed to help them along their path. Thankyou. And, just in case, clean off your dryer tops and lint traps: Kent says it can cause fires. Love you all!

Wow, Liz-that is so awful. We will be praying for them and for y'all to know how to minister to them at this time.

Why do I waste so much time on things that don't matter?

I so much do this too. What a good reminder on focusing above on heavenly treasures.

What a sad story. I'm so glad no one was hurt! I'll be praying for them and y'all.

What a scary experience. Praise God no one was hurt! I'm sure whatever help you can offer would be welcome...when my parents' house burned down they appreciated so much the clothes, food, and support people gave! One cool thing we did at work for a family whose house burned down was have a food and clothing drive...or people contributed gift cards to Walmart etc...I wonder if your neighborhood would be interested in doing something like this? This might be especially helpful if they don't have a church that can help them out.

Thanks all of you: I'm praying about how I'm supposed to help. I've thought about organizing some kind of drive or something. I actually was thinking of going to the builders in the neighborhood and seeing what they can do: not only will it help the family but it will take care of any roadblocks for them selling new houses with the shell of the house as a reminder of the fragility of life. I'm going to pray about it, but appreciate your input.
