Anniversary Trip, Part 2
I actually have a few minutes to write, so I'd thought I'd add some info about our wonderful trip!
I had been researching mountian retreats for a while because Kris and I have had such horrible experiences at the family cabins (100+bee bites, leaky roof, sprained ankles, broken down cars, dislocated hips (Dottie), mice, bats, mold, and the list goes on and on. I had decided on the western SC region, and really wanted to be on lake Jocassee. But with the drought, most of the pet friendly cabins wouldn't gaurantee water at the dock. Then I came across this link for the charming 1 bedroom cabin. The lake was private (meaning we didn't have to have fishing licenses,) and there were about 50 homes on the lake. It was less than 10 miles from lake Jocassee and Whitewater falls, and a nice 4 hr drive from Florence.
We left on Wednesday and returned on Sunday. Kris only allowed me to take one of my bikes (he said he actually wanted to see me on our anniversary trip) so I chose my cruising bike over my road bike (I could do an entire post on my bikes...)
We also took all the groceries, bait, and everything we could possibly need so that we wouldn't have to leave the cabin!
We followed the directions and were a little surprised at the tiny road that wound around the mountain and was barely wide enough for our truck. We laughed at the thought of me actually being able to ride my bike out to the paved road...quite a challenge I would eventually conquer, or die trying. We were so happy with the cabin and lake, and canoed the entire lake in under an hour, Bella with her life jacket on, me with an actual paddle...
I biked daily, walking up most of the hills, riding down some at 35 mph! It was a great work out and fun too. I had to walk up most of the tall hills, but by day 5 was able to stay on my bike for most of the ride!
Here are the final pictures on my camera: Enjoy!
